SuzakiNishi The Animation – 01

Joint with the fine folks over at Sliderbreak (Koinuri & Period). I saw their call for a capper/encoder, so here I am!

Using Tokyo MX because I have multiple .ts sources for it, SUN is lolSUN, and I don’t know anyone who gets KTK.

Yes, with Sliderbreak. Ep2 has a lot of signs so it’s taking a bit. Should be out soon.

Similar situation with episodes 3&4 as well?

Two signs in Ep3 (episode title and one other) and only one in Ep4 (episode title). TSing those shouldn’t take much time at all.

Just wondering because I’ve seen this come up before on other forums and boards with subbing circles; and since I am not involved in subbing or translations, what is it about signs that make the process more time intensive?

For complex signs, there’s no real way of “automating” the typesetting that needs to be done.
For example, in Ep2, they use a kind of picture-book page turning animation to transition between little episode mini-segments. During those transition segments, the position, rotation, skew, etc, of each sign changes and has to be redone manually. So what seems like a standard 7 signs (the number of transitions in the episode) quickly becomes much, much larger. ~13 times larger, in fact, since during those transitions there’s 13 unique frames.

tl;dr: There are 7 transition signs, each with 13 unique frames each. 7 x 13 = 91 + a couple of other basic signs that appeared in the episode = ~95

Thank you for the reply. I hadn’t realized how intensive the work is for a sign. Then again, even at my old age of 50, I do not know the in and outs of what is involved in this process. wouldn’t it be much easier to just sub beside, above or below each sign rather than working it from a transition or sanity stand point?

Of course, but that’s just taking the easy way out. We’re not really in a rush to sub this, so we’re putting in the time to make things look nice.
Typesetter was away on vacation this back weekend, so work should be resuming soon.
